Beatles

The Beatles were a British rock band formed in Liverpool, a city in northwest England, that became famous throughout the world and influenced an entire generation, a movement that the British press called Beatlemania.

The Beatles were formed in 1960 by four members: John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison. The band, created in 1957, was initially formed by John Lennon and his schoolmates Peter Sholton, Eric Griffiths, Bill Smith, and Rod Davis. In homage to Quarry Bank School, the band was named The Quarrymen.

Also in 1957, Paul McCartney was invited to join the band. In 1958, it was George's turn to join the group. In 1960, the band changed its name to "The Beatles". At this time, the band did not have a permanent drummer. In 1961, The Beatles performed their first show at The Cavern Club, where they remained playing until 1963.

In 1962, they signed a contract with manager Brian Epstein, who changed the band's image, swapping their leather outfits for formal attire. Also that year, Ringo Starr was invited to become the band's drummer. In August, the band gave its first performance with its definitive lineup: George, Paul, John, and Ringo.

In October 1962, with the recording of "Love Me Do," the band participated in the People and Places program, broadcast live on Granada TV. By the beginning of 1963, the band was on all the British charts.

In 1964, the band gave its first performance in New York, watched by a huge crowd, and Beatlemania spread to several countries. In 1965, Queen Elizabeth II of England awarded the Beatles the Order of the British Empire.

In 1965 the band released their sixth album. In 1966 the band took a three-month break and, in March, began a tour of five countries: Germany, the Philippines, Japan, the United States, and Canada. In 1967 their manager died, and the band was embroiled in disagreements over choosing a new manager.

In 1969 the group recorded their penultimate album, "Abbey Road". In September, Lennon announced his departure from the band. On April 10, 1970, Paul announced to the public the end of the band, a week before the release of his first solo album. The reason for the group's breakup remains shrouded in mystery.
