Elvis Presley

Elvis Presley (1935-1977) was an American singer, considered the greatest rock and roll idol in the world. He went down in musical history as the King of Rock and Roll. Among his most notable songs are: That's All Right, Love Me Tender, It's Now or Never, and Kiss Me Quick.

Elvis Aron Presley was born in East Tupelo, Mississippi, United States on January 8, 1935. Son of Vernon Presley and Gladys Presley, he was born in a difficult twin birth, where his brother did not survive.

On September 12, 1948, his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where he spent his childhood.

He participated in the local evangelical church choir and was influenced by the blues. He learned to play guitar and participated in music competitions in his city.

Coming from a poor family, Elvis worked as a movie theater usher and as a truck driver. In 1953, he completed his secondary education.

Early Career

In 1954, Elvis was hired by rhythm and blues music producer Sam Phillips, who was looking for a white singer who could sing genuine blues.

In 1954, Elvis recorded his first record, a single with the songs "That's All Right" and "Blue Moon of Kentucky." His performances captivated audiences. On October 2nd, he gave his first performance outside his home state, in Atlanta, Georgia.

In 1955, he was signed by the record label RCA Victor. His new songs "Mystery Train" and "Baby Let's Play House" quickly topped the charts.

His appearances on radio and television programs captivated audiences. In 1956, Elvis appeared on the Dorsey Brothers' television show, and soon after, his album "Heartbreak Hotel" reached nine million copies sold in a single year.

Elvis Presley began his international performances, enchanting and scandalizing audiences with his extravagant clothes and exaggerated hip movements.

In 1958, he was drafted into the army. On August 14th, his mother died. In October, he was transferred to a United States military base in Germany, where he remained until March 1960.

Back in his hometown, he returned to the stage and performed on The Frank Sintra Show.

The sinuous movement he performed with his hips while dancing earned him the nickname "Elvis the Pelvis".

Elvis Presley appeared in several films, including "Love the Tender" (1956), "Fun in Acapulco" (1963), and "Viva Las Vegas" (1964).

On May 1, 1967, Elvis married Priscilla Presley in Las Vegas. On February 1, 1969, Lisa Marie Presley was born.

During the 1970s, Elvis performed in major shows and played in Las Vegas for several seasons.

Elvis recorded a new album, and the songs "Suspicious Minds" and "In the Ghetto" are topping the charts. His hip-shaking provokes hysterical reactions in teenage audiences.

In January 1973, he definitively separated from Priscilla Presley.

At the height of his career, he suffered from serious health problems: he was overweight and addicted to prescription drugs, and avoided public appearances. On June 21, 1977, Elvis Presley gave his last concert in Los Angeles.

On August 16, 1977, Elvis Presley died as a result of a heart attack.

After his death in Memphis on August 16, 1977, eight million copies of his records sold out in just five days. Graceland, the singer's lavish mansion in the city, remains a place of pilgrimage for his admirers to this day.
