Eurythmics

Eurythmics was a British pop, soul, and rock duo. Formed in 1980, it consisted of singer Annie Lennox and guitarist Dave Stewart. Annie was born in Scotland but moved to London at age 17. Dave was born and raised in England. Both were drawn to musical careers from a young age.

Annie studied at the Royal Academy of Music, and Dave discovered his talent when he received a guitar as a gift after suffering an injury while playing soccer. The two met during the 1970s at Pippins Restaurant (Hampstead), where Annie worked as a waitress.

The music-loving duo began dating. Later, they joined Peet Combies, Jim Tooney, and Eddie Chin in 1978, forming the band The Catch – which represented a mix of pop and rock. Subsequently, they changed the band's name to The Tourists and released three albums: The Tourists (1979), Reality Effect (1979), and Luminous Basement (1980).

With a cover of Dusty Springfield's song "I Only Want To Be With You"—included on their second album—they earned a platinum record. That same year, Lennox and Stewart left the group and decided to found Eurythmics. The two decided to end their romantic relationship and remain solely as a musical partner.

In 1981, they released their first album, titled In The Garden, but it didn't attract much attention. Success truly came in 1983 with their second album, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This). The title track reached number one on the American charts. Also in 1983, they released Touch – the duo's third album. This yielded the hits "Here Comes The Rain Again," "Right By Your Side," and "Who's That Girl," becoming their best-selling LP in the United Kingdom.

The following year, the long play titled 1984 (For the Love of Big Brother) gained prominence with the singles "Sex Crime" and "Julia". In 1985, they released the album Be Yourself Tonight, with the main track being the hit "There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart)". After these works, the duo also recorded the albums Revenge (1986), Savage (1987) and We Too Are One (1989) - the year they separated.

To everyone's surprise, Annie and Dave reunited in 1999 to release an album called Peace, which featured "I Saved The World Today" and "17 Again" as its main tracks. After that, the duo broke up once more.

Their last collaboration was in 2005, when they recorded "I've Got a Life" - a previously unreleased Eurythmics single.
