KC & The Sunshine Band

In the late 1960s, the disco era began. And one of the great forerunners of this movement was K.C. & The Sunshine Band.
It all started with H.W. "KC" Casey, who played keyboards and sang vocals, and Richard Finch, guitarist and bassist. Casey worked at a record store in Florida, near a record label he sometimes frequented. He stayed there for three years, when Finch, an audio technician, was hired. In 1974 they got a record deal. The group's first songs, 'Sound Your Funky Horn' and 'Queens of Club', reached the top of the charts in England, but were not very well received in the United States.
In the summer of 1975 they recorded 'Get Down Tonight'. The next song was 'That's The Way (I Like It)', which had a strong sexual appeal. The following year K.C. recorded 'Shake Your Body', which also reached the charts. In mid-1979, the band made the ballad 'Please Don't Go', a commercial success. This was their fifth and final hit to reach number one on the charts. For two years, the group remained off the charts and tried to create various other styles, without success. The last song that became a hit was 'Let's Go Rock and Roll'. During this period, TK Records went bankrupt and they signed with Epic. Two albums were released, but only the second had a track that became a hit in England, 'Give It Up'. To the musicians' dismay, Epic refused to release the album in the United States. A frustrated K.C. was forced to start his own label, Mecca. Only then were they able to release 'Give It Up' in the American market and achieve reasonable success.
In 1999, to commemorate the band's 25th anniversary, they released The 25th Anniversary Collection, and in 2001 they recorded an album with unreleased songs, 'I'll Be There For You', with a long tour titled GET UP`N DANCE TOUR. In 2000, guitarist Jerome Smith died in an accident. The following year, the band made a quick return to the music scene for a new album, "I'll Be There For You".
