John Mayer

American musician John Clayton Mayer, born on October 16, 1977, was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut and grew up in Fairfield, Connecticut. He attended Fairfield Warde High School and Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, Connecticut. In his junior year, he entered the Center for Global Studies Abroad, a program for students from Fairfield County to study Japanese.

Mayer listened to pop music, but it wasn't until he was thirteen that he started playing electric guitar, when a neighbor gave him a Stevie Ray Vaughan tape, and Mayer discovered the blues. After two years of practicing, he began playing in blues bars and other venues. In high school, he was in a band called Villanova Junction with Joe Beleznay, Tim Procaccini, and Rich Wolf.

After playing guitar for several years, Mayer enrolled at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts at age 19. He soon realized that, rather than studying music, his greatest interest was writing and playing. Therefore, he decided to drop out and move to Atlanta, Georgia. There, he truly began his career, quickly gaining local fame in the area's cafes and bars.

The musician began his career playing primarily acoustic rock, but gradually transitioned to blues in 2005, collaborating with renowned blues artists such as B.B. King, Buddy Guy, and Eric Clapton, and forming the John Mayer Trio. The influence of blues can be heard on his album Continuum, released in September 2006. At the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in 2007, Mayer won the award for Best Pop Vocal Album for Continuum and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Waiting On The World To Change".

In 2003, he won a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the 2002 single "Your Body Is A Wonderland" from the album Room for Squares. In February 2005, he won the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the song "Daughters" from the album Heavier Things. His rivals for the title were Elvis Costello, Josh Groban, Prince, and Seal. He also took home the Grammy Award for Song of the Year, which was given to the songwriters of "Daughters." In February 2007, he won the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the song "Waiting On The World To Change" from the album Continuum. He also won Best Pop Album for the album Continuum. John Mayer has toured with several bands, including Maroon 5, Guster, Counting Crows, The Wallflowers, and Teitur. Some of her most popular songs are "Gravity," "Bigger Than My Body," "No Such Thing," and "Your Body Is a Wonderland."

Despite his reputation as a sensitive composer, he is also an excellent guitarist. Influenced by Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, he accepted an invitation from Eric Clapton to play at the Crossroads Guitar Festival.

In 2004, John worked with producer and hip hop artist Kanye West, appearing on rapper Common's song "Go" and Kanye West's own song "Bittersweet".

Later that same year, John formed the John Mayer Trio with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan, whom he had met during previous studio sessions. The trio plays a combination of blues and rock. In November 2005, they released a live album called "TRY!". The first single, "Who Did You Think I Was?", references John's decision to move away from acoustic pop music. In October 2005, the John Mayer Trio opened for the Rolling Stones on their sold-out tour.

"Continuum," released in September 2006, was produced by John Mayer himself, along with the trio's drummer, Steve Jordan. This album continues the style of their previous releases with the trio, combining their characteristic pop music with the feel, sound, groove, and sensibility of the blues. "Continuum" debuted at number 2 on the Billboard charts, and "Waiting On The World To Change" was the 3rd most purchased song on the iTunes Store in the week of its release.

Where the Light Is: Live in Los Angeles is a live album and film by the singer-songwriter and directed by Danny Clinch. The concert for the album was recorded and filmed on December 8, 2007, in Los Angeles, California, at the Nokia Theatre LA Live for the Annual Holiday Charity Revue, which raised funds for various Los Angeles charities. In Brazil, it was certified Gold by ABPD for over 15,000 copies sold in the country.

The concert was released in audio format on CD, LP and digital download and in video format on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on July 1, 2008.

On November 17, 2009, the album Battle Studies was released. It is John Mayer's fourth studio album on Columbia Records in the United States. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, selling 286,000 copies in its first week. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association and has sold 880,000 copies in the United States.
